Hello and welcome to St. John’s Nursery School. For the past 39 years we have had the pleasure of being a part of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. Our school was started by just a few mothers who began a play group and we have been growing ever since.
Our program is based on various units. Some units change on a yearly basis and others are always included. The curriculum includes such topics as self, social rules, animals, transportation, seasonal changes, etc. We employ varied equipment that encourages dramatic play, creativity and discovery: paint, books, clay, magnets, wheeled toys, dress up, colors, puzzles, rhythm instruments, sand/water tables, plants and animals.
The program is done at the children’s pace and with each individual child in mind.
We learn about the holidays and have special celebrations. A particular favorite event is the annual “Thanksgiving Day Feast” which includes preparation of a meal and the care of a guest. We churn butter and make pumpkin pies, cranberry bread and popcorn.
CLASS TIME
The Nursery School offers a quality program for all ages three through prekindergarten five year olds. The five day morning class meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 am. The three day morning class meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 11:30 am. The Nursery School calendar follows that of Blue Mountain School district. Qualified consultation is available to teachers and parents through the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit. Speech Language Therapy and Developmental Services are offered by the Schuylkill County Early Intervention program of the Intermediate Unit. These services are offered at no cost to the parents. DAILY SCHEDULE
Free Play – is the child’s time to select an activity in one of our many learning centers. Our teachers provide sand/rice play, cooking projects and cognitive games. Circle Time – is an important part of our daily schedule. All of our circle time activities are intended to help develop attention span, listening ability, observation skills, verbal skills and memory. Snack – is provided on a daily basis. Our snacks are all very nutritious and healthy. Our parents provide all of our special treats. Art – the children will have numerous opportunities to use scissors, crayons, water colors, paste, glue, and various methods of painting. STAFF
Our staff has many years of experience in early childhood development, elementary education and special education. We feel that it is important to expand knowledge so classes are always considered and planned to address this goal. Our staff is also certified in infant and adult CPR/first aid. St. John’s Nursery School prides themselves on having an “open door” policy with the parents. In doing so we feel that it helps develop a happy attitude between the child and parents. Another goal of the staff is to provide guidance for the child to become increasingly skillful in using language and learning concepts. We hope that you have enjoyed learning a little bit about our Nursery School. Please feel free to continue viewing our site for updates involving special holidays, important information concerning the 2005/2006 school year and weather alerts for the winter season.
